INAUGURAL FIRST TEE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

2020 Event Information Date: October 8th to 12th Location: Clemson, SC Host: First Tee National Headquarters

The first-ever First Tee National Championship will be held at Clemson University, bringing together First Tee’s elite players for an opportunity to showcase how the program has helped build the strength of character needed to play at the collegiate or next level. The winners of each male/female division will be awarded with the Tattersall Cup named after First Tee Trustee, Fred Tattersall. Each winner will earn an exemption into the PGA TOUR Champions’ PURE Insurance Championship Impacting the First Tee at Pebble Beach Golf Links on September 18-20, 2020. “We are excited to announce the First Tee National Championship and play our inaugural event at Clemson University,” said Greg McLaughlin, First Tee president. “Our goal is to provide each participant with a college-level experience both on and off the golf course. We are thankful to longtime First Tee supporter Fred Tattersall for creating this opportunity for the young people in our chapter network.”

First Tee National Championship will be a 54-hole stroke-play event at Clemson University’s The Walker Course, featuring a Girls and Boys division for 72 high school participants ages 14-19. Participants will have the opportunity to take in the “college experience” including dorm-living, an official Clemson University campus tour and dinner at the West End Zone Club of the football team’s Memorial Stadium.

Applications will open to participants on Jan. 28 for a nominal fee. Selected applicants will receive entrance into the tournament and will be provided lodging and meals during tournament days.

Selection Process and Application Application Release: January 28, 2020 Application Deadline: Monday July 20th 2020 Number of Participants Selected: 72 Eligibility Requirements Application released: January 28; Application deadline: July 20th; Participants announced: April 28 Selection: 72 participants • Participants must be between 14 and 19 years old (applicants must reach their 14th birthday by the first day of the event date and not begun post-secondary education by the conclusion of the event). • Classified as a high school freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior as of spring semester 2020 • Entered in Salesforce and has been an active participant for a minimum of two years • Must be at Birdie level or higher, at the time of application deadline • Chapters must have signed their contract at least 3 years before application deadline in order to submit applicants • Applicants will be selected solely off of their golf ability. The selection committee will select participants based off the prioritized criteria below:  Rolex AJGA Ranking   Junior Golf Scoreboard Ranking   Golfweek/Sagarin Junior Ranking • Following this process, the remaining applicants will be selected based off their golf resume • An emphasis will be placed on their competitive golf experience (national, regional, state, local tournaments) • The applicant’s handicap will be evaluated and those remaining spots will be filled with the player who has the lowest GHIN handicap (note: the handicap must be active with the USGA Handicapping system) • Each chapter may nominate up to five participants for the First Tee National Championship

First Tee National Championship Update Given the current environment and the uncertainties that lie ahead, we have decided to postpone the First Tee National Championship. The event has been rescheduled for October 8 – 12, 2020 and will still be conducted at Clemson University. The application deadline has been extended to Monday, July 20. With the change in dates, applicants who will be entering their freshman year of high school in Fall 2020 are now eligible to apply for the First Tee National Championship. However, those applicants who will be graduating in Spring 2020 will not be eligible to participate. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause but thank you for your understanding in these unprecedented times.
